About Dalmeny Daycare

Building a Dream, Caring for Our Children

Our Philosophy

Our mission is to provide high-quality childcare, creating opportunities for children to develop socially, emotionally, cognitively, and physically through loving childhood educators. We also aim to support the community by easing the stress working parents face in finding excellent childcare.

Beliefs & Objectives

To provide a safe, nurturing environment where children can develop

To create a home-like setting where children can play and learn

To teach each child they may experience challenges and success

To encourage each child to develop self-care skills and self-responsibility

To provide high-quality childcare by loving early childhood educators

To support the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development of children

Our History!

2010

In the fall of 2010, a group of community members gathered to share their need for licensed childcare within our community. From that initial meeting, a small group continued to meet to pursue a dream of opening a centre.

2011

In June 2011, Dalmeny Daycare Inc. became a legal entity as a non-profit corporation governed by a board of directors consisting of parents and community members interested in caring for our youngest population.

2012

In May 2012, Dalmeny Daycare Inc. was notified that a grant application was approved by the Saskatchewan Ministry of Education. Funding for starting a centre, as well as ongoing funding for thirty-three children, resulted in a renewed sense of reaching our dream of a childcare facility in Dalmeny.

2021

In 2021, we finally opened our facility as the first government-subsidized, licenced daycare facility within Dalmeny and area! While the need for childcare by a couple of our original board members no longer exists, these individuals want to contribute to a future where families do not need to worry about reliable childcare.

The Ministry of Education and the Town of Dalmeny have been extremely patient and supportive as we proceeded with our dream.

We are excited to serve your family and welcome you as members of our non-profit corporation!

Early Learning

Early learning programs are holistic, responsive, and developmentally appropriate. They focus on the healthy development of the whole child — social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and spiritual.

According to the Ministry of Education (2008), key principles of early learning programs include:

  1. Children as Competent Learners

  2. Holistic Development and Learning

  3. Strong Positive Relationships

  4. Stimulating and Dynamic Environments

Environment for Learning

Environments have the power to shape the learning that takes place. Children are aware of their surroundings from an early age, and the environment also influences the adults who participate.

Key characteristics of a strong learning environment:

  • Promotes positive social-emotional development

  • Encourages optimum physical development

  • Creates an aesthetic setting that nourishes spiritual development

  • Stimulates intellectual/cognitive and language/literacy development

Relationships

Children’s relationships with other children, families, and the wider community influence their development. When children feel safe and comfortable in an environment, they engage more fully in activities and interactions.

Educators have always recognized the importance of parent and family involvement in early childhood programs. There is a growing emphasis on developing respectful, committed relationships between families and educators.

High-quality early childhood programs include caring educators who establish stimulating environments that support positive self-identities in children.

Through play, children learn to:

  • Use their language and social skills

  • Cooperate and negotiate

  • Persist in tasks

  • Collaborate with peers

Equity Partner

We aim to provide equal employment and advancement opportunities to all individuals. Employment decisions are based on merit, qualifications, and ability.

Dalmeny Daycare does not discriminate in employment opportunities or practices based on race, religion, gender, national origin, age, disability, or any other characteristic protected by law and human rights.

Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action

In recognition of the Statement of Apology to former students of Indian Residential Schools made by Canada on June 11, 2008, and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s 94 Calls to Action, Dalmeny Daycare aims to work with the community to purposefully acknowledge the harm caused by residential schools and move forward with reconciliation.

With these commitments in mind, we affirm our duty to accommodate Indigenous spiritual-cultural beliefs and practices.
